category

A category is used to parameterize a parameter (resource, budget, indicator or risk). A category must be linked to a parameter structure. Structures are in global budgets, while categories are in each project. It is the category that manages the display: the thresholds for displaying parameter alerts in the project. 🚨

It's essential to set up the measurement structures and categories beforehand. It's difficult to change everything afterwards. The structure is set, as are the representations, which are consistent with what you want to put in place; you don't change the settings again.

Here are the fields found in this screen:

‣
WordingWording

Give the category a name; this is what will appear in the project.

‣
CodeCode

It is important to add code, particularly for data import and synchronization.

‣
Long labelLong label

A longer label allows you to enter more characters than the label itself.

‣
DescriptionDescription

This field allows you to add additional information.

‣
OrderOrder

This field is used to place this category a specific position in the list of categories.

‣

When editing, this field cannot be changed.

‣
synthesis categorysynthesis category

This field is used to indicate whether or not I consolidate my data at the category level. (budget cockpit )

💡

If you don't check this box: no analysis, no cockpit. It's useful to leave this box unchecked if you don't want to track the progress of certain categories in particular.

‣
Assignment levelAssignment level

This field allows you to specify how budgets will be added to the project: either at the project level or at the phase or both.

🚨

When editing, this field cannot be changed.

‣
Default distributionDefault distribution

This field allows you to set the scheduling automatic (linear) or manual allocation. For example, if I have a target 500k and aplanned budget planned 500k, can I schedule it schedule or manually (if I know that July will be different and I’ll spend more...) It is possible to allocate budgets linearly but to override one or more entries in my scheduling Manual - Linear: Past Due / Manual - period Linear period...

‣
Contributes to earned valueContributes to earned value

Depending on the progress of my projects, I'll be able to determine what can be billed. (Advanced settings)

‣
Checking distributionsChecking distributions

By checking this box, I enforce the scheduling my budget time, meaning that I cannot save changes to a budget schedule. The validation will block the scheduling save scheduling the total of the values to be allocated differs from the total of the allocated values

🚩

If multilingual configuration is enabled, an additional field must be filled in a section Multilingual. This field corresponds to the object label in the other language.

Alarm behavior

💡
Alerts can be added. There is always a notion of target. Alerts are based on this target. I want to be able to have a colored alert if :
  • I didn't spend it all(green)
  • approaching the target (orange)
  • I've completely exceeded my expectations(red)

Alerts need to be set according to what is visible on the projects.

Example: I say I have 500k and parameter I go along I enter actual expenses: in January I'll be at 250k, in March at 350k and in June at 520k. If I exceed 101% of expenses, I'll be in the yellow. If I exceed 110%, I'll be in the red. It is possible to add alerts with other colors.

icon
target representation a budget, resource or indicator corresponding to the project's initial forecast. What we believe to be true at the start of the project. The target schedule is the "ideal" schedule imagined at the start of the project. It is likely to differ from the estimated schedule, which changes over the course of the project.
